One of the biggest problems I originally faced when starting out was getting a strategy that worked for me and sticking to it. It is so, so easy to get distracted by the latest “Secret Revealed” product and while a lot of good ideas can be had from different sources, it is of little use without a strategy or framework.

Also, despite what the internet ‘gurus’ tell you, there will be a lot to learn and a lot of work but the good thing is that it doesn’t all have to be done at once and none of it is too difficult. Take small steps over a long time – think of being the marathon runner rather than the sprinter. You do not have to know everything at once. Although the task can appear overwhelming at times, most of the steps required are really simple and the time consuming elements can be outsourced, once you know what you are doing.

I admit to spending a couple of thousand pounds looking for the ideal Internet Marketing program only to find that there was no need… it is all out there in plain view, but you have to know what to look for out of all the information before you. So before you buy any expensive internet courses at all, establish the following.

  1. List your interests and hobbies.
  2. List your expertise and experience.
  3. Pick an area (or niche) you’d love to work in – this will see you through the difficulties.
  4. Define a target and establish why you want to do this.
  5. Plan to spend at lease 3 – 6 months working regularly on this project
  6. Commit to refining your strategy and sticking with it
  7. Ignore the temptation to jump onto another program – focus is the key, so trust your instinct and carry on.

Remember, Internet Marketing is a not necessarily the business itself: it provides you with the means to create a business out of what you really love to do and Internet Marketing is the means to bring the customers to you.

For some people, Internet Marketing is what they love and it is the business rolled into one. For you? Internet Marketing or not, just do what you love and get visible to your customers.
